Every year Brombeere likes do a garden. We have all the tools, so each year she decides what to focus on and starts by getting the ground ready. This year she decided to concentrate of tomatoes and flowers.
We have the garden space out in the back of the yard. She's also experimented with planting tomatoes up by the house. In other places around the yard, she focused on flowers. When we bought the house there were little juniper trees along this part of the house. But as the years went by and they grew, they got big enough that the winter snow began to be hard on them. Finally, after one big snow storm really did them hard, we decided to take them out. That was last year. That left all that space available for flowers. Brombeere really likes flowers. There was also another flowerbed in a different part of the yard. She's planted flowers in there for a long time, some that would come back each year, perennial flowers. This year she also put some annual flowers in, flowers that had to be replanted each year. She also got some decorations and put with the newly planted flowers. She found an old step ladder to hang with flower baskets. That looked nice. And she brought an old friend around and set him to work, as well. Mr. Fisher Hobbs. Weather worn and a few years older, but nevertheless ready to help out. Add gardening to his growing list of skills. She also had stuff growing around the corner. The house was surrounded with flowers this year. Lots of potential. It didn't take long before there were flowers all over the place. She even put some on the deck.
Flowers flowers everywhere.
With all those blossoms, we had them decorating inside the house from time to time, as well. Meanwhile, there were also tomatoes growing like crazy this year. By the side of the house. And out back, in the garden space. Tomatoes growing all over. And there weren't a lot of plants but the ones she had were really producing. Every few days, Brombeere was bringing in more tomatoes. Soon, there were so many she began giving them away. And still she had as many as she wanted. Lots and lots of tomatoes. As the season drew to a close, some of the plants got a touch of blight. But they still produced some fine tomatoes. The harvest continued.Eventually, though, the weather cooled and Brombeere went out and brought in all that were ripe or close so they could finish ripening in the house. The weather was predicting frost. It was time to bring in the last.
So they went into the window to get all the sunshine they could (during the day) and the last of the tomatoes were in. The season was pretty much over. As for the flowers, those that were not perennials were trimmed to the ground for the winter. The trimmings went out by the curb to be picked up by the city in its biannual "brush and yard waste" pick up. So, this year's garden was a resounding success, Brombeere was a very happy girl. And she enjoyed all the tomatoes she wanted, all summer and fall. Very nice.
